A codex review of the branch found seven places where earlier refactor commits changed behavior. Each is restored here with a test:
- base_service imported flood_scope relatively; the local-service loader also runs that file as local_services.base_service, where the import cannot resolve. Now absolute.
- Radio-health fields were initialized after commands and services were built, so a plugin constructor reading is_radio_offline raised. They are now set before any plugin.
- Removing the per-command can_execute overrides made 31 commands honor skip_channel_check, which their overrides had dropped. BaseCommand.honors_skip_channel_check (False on exactly those commands) keeps them enforcing their channel list.
- CommandManager.get_plugin_metadata, WxCommand.get_weather_for_zipcode and PluginLoader.validate_plugin were public compatibility entry points; they are back.
- feed_manager stopped exporting DEFAULT_MAX_FEED_RESPONSE_BYTES and DEFAULT_MAX_PARSED_FEED_ITEMS despite the commit saying it re-exported them; it does now.
- wx and gwx logged companion-location lookup failures at WARNING; the shared helper logged at debug. It now takes the level.
- The INFO 'MESSAGE ROUTING' / 'DIRECT MESSAGE' lines for pubkey-correlated DMs were removed with the dead path_info computation; they are logged again by a log-only helper.
32 commands overrode can_execute only to return False while their own <name>_enabled flag was off and otherwise defer to the base. BaseCommand now has an enabled_attr class attribute naming that flag, which can_execute checks first. Each command keeps reading its flag exactly as before (same section, default and legacy aliases), and code and tests that set help_enabled, webviewer_enabled and the like still work, since the flag is read at call time.
Only overrides that were exactly 'if not self.<flag>: return False; return super().can_execute(...)' were converted, checked by AST. Commands with extra conditions (wx's delegate, joke's dark-joke DM rule, admin-only and DM-only checks, dadjoke's reversed order) keep their overrides. Several of the removed overrides called super().can_execute(message) without passing skip_channel_check; nothing calls them with it set, so honoring it now changes nothing.
Added a new method `split_trigger_and_args` to the `BaseCommand` class, which splits message content into a matched keyword and arguments. This enhancement allows for better handling of command triggers and arguments across various command classes, ensuring that multi-word triggers are prioritized and leading characters are stripped appropriately. Updated the `ChannelsCommand`, `DiceCommand`, `HackerCommand`, `MultitestCommand`, `RollCommand`, and `TraceCommand` classes to utilize this new method for cleaner and more consistent command execution logic.
- Updated the TraceCommand class to support parsing of 1-byte, 2-byte, and 3-byte hex node paths.
- Improved the _extract_path_from_message and _parse_path_arg methods to handle multibyte node formats and enforce consistent length checks.
- Enhanced help text and usage examples to reflect new path formats.
- Added unit tests for multibyte path parsing and reciprocal path building to ensure correct functionality.
- Updated `config.ini.example` to introduce the `respond_to_mentions` setting, allowing configuration of how the bot responds to mentions in channel messages.
- Refactored `MessageHandler` to implement logic for handling mentions based on the new configuration, including stripping mentions when appropriate.
- Added `cleanup_message_for_matching` method in `BaseCommand` to streamline message processing and mention validation.
- Enhanced various command classes to utilize the new cleanup method for consistent mention handling.
- Introduced tests to validate the behavior of the new mention handling logic across different configurations.
BUG-001: web viewer login/session auth (in web viewer commit)
BUG-002: db_manager ALTER TABLE for missing channel_operations and
feed_message_queue columns on startup
BUG-015: scheduler thread blocked on future.result(); replaced all
blocking waits with add_done_callback (fire-and-forget)
BUG-016: reboot_radio sends meshcore.commands.reboot() before disconnect
BUG-017: radio disconnect uses asyncio.wait_for(timeout=10)
BUG-022: custom asyncio loop exception handler suppresses IndexError
from meshcore parser at DEBUG level
BUG-024: last_db_backup_run updated after each run; 2-min startup
window; last-run seeded from DB on restart
BUG-025: send_channel_message retries up to 2 times (2s delay) on
no_event_received via _is_no_event_received() helper
BUG-026: split_text_into_chunks() and get_max_message_length() added
to CommandManager; keyword dispatch uses send_response_chunked()
BUG-028: byte_data = b"" initialised before try block in
decode_meshcore_packet to prevent UnboundLocalError in except handler
TraceCommand: path nodes reversed and return path truncated; fixed
format_elapsed_display: UTC normalisation before elapsed computation (#75)
RepeaterManager: auto_manage_contacts guard before any purge logic (#50)
Command aliases: [Aliases] config section injects shorthands at startup
JSON logging: _JsonFormatter; json_logging = true in [Logging]
Structured JSON logging compatible with Loki, Elasticsearch, Splunk
Discord bridge, Telegram bridge, and all service plugins updated
MeshGraph edge promotion logic corrected
Shutdown: scheduler and meshcore disconnect joined cleanly; log spam fixed
All modules: ruff and mypy cleanup applied (type annotations, imports)
- Updated the TraceCommand class to enhance the labeling of hops in the trace output.
- Replaced direct hash retrieval with a conditional approach to determine the source label for each hop, improving clarity in the output format.
- Ensured consistent labeling for the first and last hops, enhancing the readability of the trace results.
- Updated the logic in `TraceCommand` to avoid capping the `path_nodes` after building the reciprocal path, ensuring that the return path is preserved.
- Improved clarity in the code by adding a comment to explain the rationale behind the change.
- Updated `config.ini.example` to include an `output_format` option for the trace command, allowing users to choose between inline and vertical formats for trace results.
- Enhanced the `TraceCommand` class to handle the new output format, implementing methods for both inline and vertical formatting of trace results.
- Improved documentation within the code to clarify the behavior of the new output format feature.
- Updated the trace command's description and help text to clarify the behavior of the `trace` and `tracer` commands regarding path handling.
- Modified the `_format_trace_result` method to include the sender's ID in the response for better context in trace results.
- Adjusted the logic in the `execute` method to ensure proper path handling for tracer commands and when no path is provided.
- Introduced `[Trace_Command]` section in `config.ini.example` to enable link diagnostics with customizable parameters such as maximum hops, trace mode, and retry settings.
- Updated `command-reference.md` to include usage instructions and examples for the new `trace` and `tracer` commands, detailing their functionality for manual and round-trip tracing.
- Enhanced `mesh_graph.py` to support 2-byte trace confirmation for improved path weighting.
- Modified `message_handler.py` to update the mesh graph based on trace data, ensuring accurate edge representation in the graph.
- Added translations for the new trace commands in `en.json` to support user interaction in multiple languages.
